Betsy
McAlister Groves,
Violence in the Lives of Children
Betsy McAlister Groves, MSW, LICSW, is the founding
director of the Child Witness to Violence Project at Boston Medical
Center and assistant professor of pediatrics at Boston University
School of Medicine. She is the past recipient of a fellowship from
the Open Society Institute and has been a fellow at the Malcolm
Weiner Center of Social Policy at Harvard University. Her publications
include a book, Children Who See Too Much: Lessons from the
Child Witness to Violence Project, published in 2002, and articles
in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Pediatrics,
Harvard Mental Health Letter, and Topics in Early Childhood
Special Education. She has served on the Massachusetts Governor's
Commission on Domestic Violence and the Massachusetts Juvenile Justice
Advisory Committee. In addition, she has served as a consultant
to Family Communications, Inc., producers of Mister Roger's
Neighborhood; the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court
Judges; and the Family Violence Prevention Fund. Ms. Groves received
her master's degree from Boston University School of Social Work
and her undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary.
