Daniel
T. Lichter,
Families: Diversity and Change
Daniel T. Lichter, PhD, is the Robert F. Lazarus
Professor in population studies and professor of sociology at The
Ohio State University. He also is current director of the University’s
Initiative in Population Research. Dr. Lichter received his PhD
from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1981. He spent 18 years
on the faculty at Penn State University, where he served as director
of the Population Research Institute from 1995 to 1999 before joining
the faculty at The Ohio State University. Dr. Lichter is past president
of the Association of Population Centers and the current editor
of Demography, the official journal of the Population Association
of America. He sits on advisory boards for the National Center for
Children in Poverty, the Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, and
the Census Bureau’s Advisory Committee of Professional Associations.
Dr. Lichter has published widely on demographic topics related to
the family and welfare policy. His recent work has focused on marriage
among welfare-dependent, unwed mothers and on prosocial behavior
among economically disadvantaged adolescents and young adults.
