Moira Szilagyi, Foster Care
Moira Szilagyi, MD, PhD, is assistant professor
of pediatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine
and Dentistry and the medical director of foster care pediatrics
for the Monroe County, New York State Department of Health. The
editor of Fostering Health: Health Care for Children in Foster Care,
Szilagyi has contributed to national efforts to improve health services
and health outcomes for children in foster care and has served on
the Committee on Early Childhood, Adoption, and Dependent Care at
the American Academy of Pediatrics and its section on adoption and
foster care. She has served as faculty for a breakthrough collaborative
on foster care health care developed by the National Institute for
Child Health Quality and has served in an advisory capacity to various
local, state, and national groups interested in this area. She has
written several articles and chapters on the health needs of this
population and continues to educate doctors in training and her
peers and colleagues about children in foster care.
