Peter G. Szilagyi, Health Insurance
Peter G. Szilagyi, MD, MPH, is professor of pediatrics
and chief of the Division of General Pediatrics at the University
of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is a general pediatrician
who provides primary care to his patients within the primary care
practice at the medical center. He is also an experienced health
services researcher and has done pioneering studies evaluating health
care for uninsured children, the impact of managed care, the impact
of statewide health insurance programs on the health of children,
the impact of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program,
and the financing of health services for vulnerable children. His
research has contributed to state and national health insurance
reform. He has served on a variety of advisory boards, including
a health systems study section for the Agency for Healthcare Research
and Quality. He also has performed numerous advisory roles for the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding vaccine-related
issues, and he served on the Subcommittee on Family Impacts of Uninsurance
for the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Consequences
of Uninsurance. This subcommittee produced the publication Health
Insurance Is a Family Matter.
