Frederick P. Rivara, Impact of
Injuries
Frederick P. Rivara, MD, MPH, former director of
the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center in Seattle
for 13 years, is a world-renowned expert in the field of injury
prevention. The founding president of the International Society
for Child and Adolescent Injury Prevention, his contributions to
the field have spanned more than 25 years. Dr. Rivara received his
medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a masters
of public health degree from the University of Washington. He was
a resident at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston
and the University of Washington. Dr. Rivara’s current appointments
include the George Adkins Professor of Pediatrics at the University
of Washington School of Medicine, adjunct professor of epidemiology,
vice-chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and Head of the Division
of General Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of
Medicine. He is also editor of the Archives of Pediatrics and
Adolescent Medicine, the oldest pediatrics journal in the United
States.
