For Release: Immediate Although the teen pregnancy rate is at its lowest in 30 years, 31 percent of teenage girls get pregnant at least once before they reach age 20. Join the American Academy of Pediatrics and more than 200 other national organizations in promoting the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, a campaign geared towards teens to avoid too-early pregnancy and parenthood. On this day, teens will be encouraged to visit www.StayTeen.org and take a quiz (available in English and Spanish) on what they would do in risky sexual situations. Pediatricians will participate by informing their teenage patients about this campaign and encourage them to take this online quiz, which will challenge teens to think carefully about what they might do "in the moment." For more information about this campaign and a complete list of the organizational partners, visit the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy Web site at www.thenationalcampaign.org/national. # # # The American Academy of Pediatrics is an organization of 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. |
