PROTECTING PUBLIC TRUST IN IMMUNIZATION

Below is a special article appearing in the July issue of Pediatrics, the peer-reviewed, scientific journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

For Release: July 7, 2008, 12:01 am (ET)

A special article, “Protecting Public Trust in Immunization,” discusses what government, industry and non-profit groups can do to encourage public support of immunizations. It recommends investment in immunization-safety science, which includes research on the short- and long-term risks and benefits of vaccine combinations and timing of multiple vaccines. Emphasis should also be placed on effective communication within the vaccine community to ensure all angles of the issue are presented to the public in a clear and reliable manner.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is an organization of 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
