Mental Health
The
Pediatrics Collaborative Care (PedsCare) Program is a cooperative agreement between
the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the federal Maternal and Child Health
Bureau (MCHB). The main goals of the PedsCare Program are to: - Improve
the ability of pediatricians to provide community-based collaborative care for
all children within the context of the medical home.
- Improve the capacity
of the US health care system to provide community-based collaborative care for
all children within the context of the medical home.
Mental health
has been identified as an area for collaborative care in the PedsCare program.
Staff within the AAP Division of Community Health Services are working with oversight
from the AAP Community Pediatrics Action Group to address mental health initiatives. Mental
Health
- Convene a Mental Health Workgroup to develop a plan for training
pediatricians on mental health issues
- Offer guidelines for the pediatricians
role in mental health risk assessments
- Develop educational programs for
national conferences
- Provide mental health resources for pediatricians
and other health care professionals
- Provide funding opportunities related
to mental health activities through the Community Access to Child Health (CATCH)
program
