Improving oral health gets boost in N Carolina (May 02) -
Into the Mouths of Babes, a North Carolina training program, provides oral screening training to physicians and selected allied health professionals, educates parents and caregivers on dental health, and provides fluoride varnish applications to children up to 3 years of age who are enrolled in Medicaid.

Policy calls for comprehensive medical, dental care for foster kids (Mar 02) - A revised AAP policy statement,
Health Care of Young Children in Foster Care, recommends that children receive a health screening as soon as they are placed into foster care. It also recommends comprehensive medical and dental assessments, developmental and mental health evaluations, and ongoing primary care and monitoring of health status through a medical home.

2001
Guidelines advise pediatricians on judicious use of fluoride in children (Nov 01) - Based on the strength of scientific evidence in "Recommendations for Using Fluoride to Prevent and Control Dental Caries in the United States" (MMWR. 2001;50:1-59), the CDC developed guidance for health care providers, health agencies, manufacturers, and the public, changing the recommended fluoride exposure amount for children and adults.

Brighten children’s smiles by taking proactive role in oral health (Feb 01) - Despite advances in oral health, dental
and oral diseases continue to plague children. Factors contributing to oral health decline include lack of access to care, inadequate availability of preventive measures such as water fluoridation and dental sealants, and lack of knowledge of the importance of oral health.
