Encourage planning of 3 meals with 2 snacks to limit constant eating
or “grazing” throughout the day. |

Limit the consumption of foods high in sugar, such as cake, cookies, or candy and eat them only at mealtimes. |

Avoid foods that stick to the surface of the teeth and are difficult to remove. Examples of sticky foods include fruit roll-ups, dried fruit (raisins), and certain candies (caramel). |

Encourage families to choose fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grain snacks. |

Minimize juice consumption and allow juice drinking only from a cup
(not a bottle or sippy cup). Following are the AAP recommendations regarding juice intake: |

No juice for children younger than 1 year of age. |
| |
|
|
Limit fruit juice to 4-6 oz/day for children 1 to 6 years of age. |

|
|
Limit juice to 8-12 oz/day for children 7-18 years of age. |
