August 11, 2009: We are still working to get payment for fluoride varnish application paid for by Pennsylvania Medicaid. The varnish is not yet paid for by any of the Medicaid payors and only a few private insurers.
We have also received several calls from pediatricians across the state in need of resources, and we are referrring them to the OHI Web site for more information.
Chapter Activities The PA Chapter Healthy Child Care Pennsylvania (ECELS) program has developed an Oral Health Self Learning Module that child care providers can complete for credit towards their licensing requirements. There are also oral health videos in the AV catalog that child care providers in Pennsylvania can borrow to educate staff and parents about oral health issues.
Two 2 Pennsylvania pediatricians received AAP Oral Health Preceptorship grants in 2008. In addition, the Pennsylvania Chapter has been working with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and the Pennsylvania Dental Association to develop a Medicaid primary care provider based oral health program to include exam, fluoride varnish, and referral to a dentist.
