The National Initiative to Improve Adolescent Health by the Year 2010* was created to elevate the national focus on the health and well-being of adolescents and young adults (aged 10–24 years) by addressing the most serious health and safety issues facing this population. This document is designed to help guide state and local agencies and organizations through processes including community coalition-building, needs and assets assessment, priority-setting, and program planning, implementation and evaluation.

The knowledge path about adolescent violence prevention, produced by the Maternal and Child Health Library, is an electronic guide to selected resources from the public health, medical, criminal justice, education, and social services literature that measure, document, and monitor adolescent violence; identify risk and protective factors; and report on promising intervention strategies. This path also includes separate sections of resources on specific aspects of adolescent violence such as bullying, firearms, gangs, media violence, school violence, and violent-crime victimization.
