Faculty
Dr. Ivor Horn, MD, MPH, FAAP
Dr. Horn attended Spelman College and Indiana University School of Medicine.  She completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Oakland in Oakland, California and her fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics and Community Oriented Primary Care at Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) in Washington, DC.  During her fellowship, she completed a Masters in Public Health at George Washington University School of Public Health.  Since fellowship, she has been a community based pediatrician and researcher at CNMC actively involved in training medical students, residents, and fellows in the practice of effective community-based medicine.  She brings to the teleconference her experience as a community based pediatrician working with communities of color and a researcher focused on child health disparities. 

Laura Jean Shipley, MD, FAAP
Dr. Shipley is Managing Partner of Panorama Pediatric Group, one of the largest pediatric practices in the greater Rochester, NY area with 10 Pediatricians, 5 Nurse Practitioners, and 1 PA.  In addition, she is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where she teaches primary care and community pediatrics.  In 1994 she co-founded, and she currently continues to co-direct, the award-winning PLC program at the University of Rochester.  PLC focuses on engaging health professionals, in practice and in training, in community health and child advocacy efforts.  Laura Jean was the lead author of a paper in Pediatrics in 2005 entitled “Teaching Community Pediatrics to Pediatric Residents: Strategic Approaches and Successful Models for Education in Community Health and Child Advocacy.”  She also directs the “Community and Pediatricians: Partners for Children” grants program in Rochester which promotes the involvement of practicing pediatricians in community health projects to benefit vulnerable children.

David Tayloe, Jr., MD, FAAP
Dr. Tayloe is President and Founder of Goldsboro Pediatrics, in Goldsboro, NC with 11 Pediatricians, 6 Nurse Practitioners, 1 Lactation Consultant, 1 Child Psychologist, and 1 Physician Assistant.  Goldsboro Pediatrics operated four offices in the Wayne County area of eastern North Carolina.  Dr. Tayloe has been awarded two CATCH grants.  One to devise health education protocols for chronic medical problems encountered in community practice.  The other CATCH grant to develop the Wayne Coalition for Latino Child Health. Dr. Tayloe has received several awards for his service to the community in North Carolina.  In addition, Dr. Tayloe serves on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Pediatrics, is Chairperson of the Board for the Wayne Initiative for School Health, is Chairperson of the Consortium for the Wayne County First Steps Program, and is a Member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Advocacy Institute.
