The Committee on Nutrition studies the nutritional needs of infants, children, and adolescents and develops guidelines for the pediatrician based on sound, objective, clinical science as well as practical experience in fostering optimal health status. The Committee also maintains active liaisons with the Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute of Health, and the Canadian Paediatric Society, pursues advocacy opportunities which promote healthy dietary habits; and provides technical assistance as needed relative to the federal regulatory process.

- New Cholesterol Screening and Treatment
Recommendations - The AAP has issued new cholesterol screening and
treatment recommendations for children. The policy statement, "Lipid
Screening and Cardiovascular Health in Childhood," has garnered
considerable attention from the press and medical community. The report
reaffirms the need for prevention of cardiovascular disease by following
Dietary Guidelines for Americans and increasing physical activity and
also includes a review of the pharmacologic agents and indications for
treating dyslipidemia in children.
