The Office of the Executive Director coordinates the entire range of programs, policies, and services provided by the Academy.
The Executive Director serves as an Ex Officio member of the Executive Committee, which is responsible for policy decisions required by the day-to-day functions of the Academy between regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Directors. In addition, the Executive Director represents the Academy to a variety of outside audiences — both national and international — in the attainment of AAP goals to enhance the health and well-being of children. As the future of medicine is increasingly being determined by government, the Executive Director devotes considerable attention to liaison activities with federal legislators and agencies.
The Associate Directors and Officers provide oversight and serve as a communication link to the various departments of the Academy. The Office of the Executive Director also maintains a number of administrative Offices critical to the overall functioning of the Academy that work across all AAP Departments.
The Board of Directors Administration, under the direct guidance of the Office of the Executive Director, is responsible for providing staff support and assistance with governance activities including those related to the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, and the National Nominating Committee. Board Administration also coordinates the national election of AAP officers and district positions, and maintains and assists in interpreting Board policy and procedures. See Board of Directors.
The Office of International Affairs supports the professional needs and interests of the AAP membership to work internationally, identify organizations that can further the international mission of the AAP, and collaborate with them efficiently.
