Child Care Providers

 

The following resources will be helpful for early education and child care providers, child care health consultants, pediatricians, and others working to strengthen disaster preparedness in child care programs.

Disaster Preparedness Standards
Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Performance Standards; Guidelines for Early Care and Education Programs, 3rd Edition has updated or added the following standards related to disasters and emergency preparedness.

 

  • Standard 4.9.0.8: Supply of Food and Water for Disasters. Increases allotment of food and water to 72-hour supply.
  • Standard 5.6.0.1: First Aid and Emergency Supplies. Adds items such as a flashlight, whistle, etc.; deletes syrup of ipecac.
  • Standard 9.2.4.3: Disaster Planning, Training and Communication. Outlines comprehensive approach on the details to be covered in an emergency/disaster plan, training requirements, and communication procedures with parents/guardians.
  • Standard 9.2.4.5: Emergency and Evacuation Drills/Exercises Policy. Expands on types of events to have drills and exercises.
