Disaster Preparedness Standards
Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Performance Standards; Guidelines for Early Care and Education Programs, 3rd Edition has updated or added the following standards related to disasters and emergency preparedness.
- Standard 188.8.131.52: Supply of Food and Water for Disasters. Increases allotment of food and water to 72-hour supply.
- Standard 184.108.40.206: First Aid and Emergency Supplies. Adds items such as a flashlight, whistle, etc.; deletes syrup of ipecac.
- Standard 220.127.116.11: Disaster Planning, Training and Communication. Outlines comprehensive approach on the details to be covered in an emergency/disaster plan, training requirements, and communication procedures with parents/guardians.
- Standard 18.104.22.168: Emergency and Evacuation Drills/Exercises Policy. Expands on types of events to have drills and exercises.
