Medical Record Retention

Pediatricians often wonder how long medical records should be kept for those patients for whom they no longer provide care. There are federal and state laws that offer guidance and regulations regarding the appropriate length of time that these records are to be saved. Following are resources that can help you determine when it is acceptable to dispose of these records. It is also important to check with your attorney, liability insurance carrier, and county medical society.
