A Guide to Organizing and
Promoting Your Health Fair

A health fair gives you the opportunity to reach out to people about their health and well-being. By bringing health professionals and lay people together, a health fair educates people about health, prevention, and the resources that are available to them in their community. A health fair can include exhibits, mini-workshops, demonstrations, screenings, etc. Plan a health fair at any time of the year. A health fair is easy to organize if you allow enough time for planning, follow a step-by-step approach, and develop a network of organizations interested in promoting health issues.

In addition to educating people about health issues, a health fair offers several benefits for sponsors and exhibitors as well. It's an opportunity to organize with others in the community to generate goodwill; it increases the visibility of one's practice, services, or resources; and it provides a number of opportunities for positive publicity.

Pediatricians can use health fairs to focus specifically on children's health issues. Through a fair, they can help parents understand when and why children should receive pediatric care, and they can inform parents that pediatricians are knowledgeable about a wide variety of both non-medical and medical issues.
