ACCESS TO CARE
Access to care encompasses all aspects of accessibility to health care including financial, geographic, physical, and communicative access. The AAP believes that all children, women, and their families must have adequate health insurance regardless of income. All health insurance plans should have a comprehensive age appropriate benefits package such as that of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
Ideally, in a medical home, primary care is provided in the child's/youth's community and families are able to speak directly to the physician when needed. The practice should meet the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for physical accessibility and be accessible by public transportation where available. |
