Approximately 800,000 children spend time in foster care each year and there are approximately 500,000 children in foster care on any given day. Children and adolescents in foster care are some of this nation's most vulnerable citizens. They have a host of unmet health needs, including physical, mental, developmental, emotional, educational and dental health needs. The AAP Task Force on Foster Care is addressing the health and well-being needs of children and youth in foster care.
Recently, the task force launched a Web site that provides resources for healthcare professionals, partner organizations, parents (foster and birth) and kin, children, teens, communities, and other professionals who care for children in foster care. A sample of the resources provided on the Web site are listed below: |
