FOSTER CARE
|
Approximately 800,000 children spend time in foster care each year and there are approximately 500,000 children in foster care on any given day. Children and adolescents in foster care are some of this nation's most vulnerable citizens. They have a host of unmet health needs, including physical, mental, developmental, emotional, educational and dental health needs. The AAP recently formed a Task Force on Foster Care to begin addressing the health and well-being needs of children and youth in foster care.
By June of 2008 the AAP plans to develop a website with resources for families, youth, communities, healthcare providers and other professionals who care for children in foster care. A link to that site will appear here. In the meantime, a few current resources are listed below: |
