GASTROENEROLOGY AND HEPATOLOGY
A healthy digestive system processes the foods and liquids that we eat, replenishing vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats that are vital for the body to function properly. From time to time, infants and children experience digestive conditions such as vomiting or diarrhea. Disorders of the liver are also common causes of chronic illness in childhood, affecting approximately one of every 8,000 children. These digestive and liver problems may be quite different than in the adult, not only with respect to symptoms, but also type of diseases.
