Many pediatricians are implementing health literacy promotion programs in their practices throughout the country. CATCH funding has been utilized in more than 20 programs to support these efforts. Your local AAP CATCH facilitator can provide information about the CATCH Program and community-based health literacy efforts. In addition, the Division of Community-based initiatives can provide referrals to pediatricians interested in health literacy issues. For this information, please contact the CATCH Program at 847/434-7085 or catch@aap.org.

There may be other pediatricians in your state addressing literacy issues in a variety of ways whom could be a valuable resource in setting up or enhancing your own program. The Reach Out and Read Web site is another source, providing a listing of sites implementing literacy programs targeted toward children 6 months to 5 years of age. (You can learn more about Reach Out and Read in the Organizations and Web Sites section.)

Many CATCH grants have been awarded in the area of health literacy. Visit the Community Pediatrics grant projects database to see previously funded projects. Simply enter 'health literacy' in the topic search box.
