Kansas Chapter

This proposal seeks to connect five AAP Kansas Chapter pediatricians with adolescent members of their local high school Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapters to create and perform skits for elementary schoolchildren, parents and community organizations. These skits will address selected Healthy People 2010 nutrition/overweight and physical activity/fitness goals in a fun, developmentally appropriate manner. Skit performances will be followed by an interactive discussion with the audience and a resource sheet reinforcing the Healthy People 2010 goals. The AAP Kansas Chapter pediatrician will introduce each skit, will participate in these interactive discussions and will answer audience questions. Each team's kit will be videotaped and entered into a statewide competition. The videotape of the winning skit will be duplicated and sent to all Kansas school districts for viewing by elementary students across the state.
