Wolfeboro Pediatrics-Huggins Hospital cares for children from birth to 21 years old. The office consists of 2 pediatricians and a pediatric nurse practitioner. It is a hospital-owned practice, working within Huggins Hospital, a not-for-profit hospital with critical access designation, in Wolfeboro, NH. In addition to this office, Huggins Hospital oversees 5 primary care family practice offices that together serve a large area of eastern New Hampshire.

Last year, this practice completed more than 2200 well check visits, with more than half for children younger than 4 years. The area is rural and a vacation and retirement site that attracts families from the greater Boston area. Wolfeboro's population swells from around 6000 off-season to well over 20,000 during the summer. Wolfeboro Pediatrics helps provide care for 7 of the area's summer camps. At Wolfeboro Pediatrics, more than 40% of the families use NH Medicaid as their primary insurance. A dental hygienist working through the local VNA program rotates through all elementary schools in the area, providing basic education and exams to those at highest risk as identified by school staff. Despite having many dentists in the area, only 1 dentist in Wolfeboro sees young children, and because of the economics of reimbursement, he has only been able to accept new patients in urgent situations.

No one in the Huggins Hospital offices applies varnish or sealants, but everyone is interested in learning to provide that care for our patients. None of the towns in our area fluoridate their water, but many people have wells that contain water with fluoride due to the granite in this area. We strongly encourage families drinking well water to have their well's fluoride content measured using kits that we provide for a state-run lab. Our practice currently provides prescriptions for fluoride for those children drinking town or bottled water and those with inadequate fluoride content in their well water.
