| Feelings Need Check Ups Too
The American Academy of Pediatrics is pleased to announce it has produced, with support from the 9-11 Children's Fund at the National Philanthropic Trust, a comprehensive CD-ROM and upcoming comprehensive 30-page toolkit for pediatricians who are helping children experiencing emotional distress related to
9-11 and other catastrophic events. The CD-ROM has been distributed to over 40,000 pediatricians and pediatric care providers. Toolkit Information. Terrorism, war, divorce, natural disasters, bullying...Trauma has many faces and can affect the emotional lives of children in countless ways. The CD-ROM and toolkit are being distributed free of charge to pediatric providers. The 9-11 Children's Fund at the National Philanthropic Trust is funding distribution of this CD-ROM and toolkit. This resource informs pediatricians about crisis-related mental health problems, demonstrates the use of various screening tools through a case study approach and provides information on other needs such as parental reassurance and bereavement support. It also describes treatment options and provides information on accessing mental health resources that are available for treatment referrals. With these mental health resources, your pediatrician is prepared to address children suffering from crisis-related mental health issues. Current availability is limited to AAP members.
