Abraham Jacobi Memorial Award (Sponsored by the AMA Section Council on Pediatrics; established 1962)

Recognizes a pediatrician who has made long-term notable contributions to pediatrics nationally in teaching, patient care, and/or clinical research.

Adele Dellenbaugh Hofmann Award (Sponsored by the Section on Adolescent Health; established 1980)

This guest lectureship is generally presented during the Section on Urology's program at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Andrew Margileth Award (Sponsored by the Section on Uniformed Services; established 1977)

Annual citation and purse and the best research paper by a uniformed services pediatrician for research in a clinical area. Named to honor Dr. Andrew Margileth for his outstanding lifetime contributions to military pediatrics, both during his active military career and as a faculty member of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine.

This award is generally presented at the annual Uniformed Services Pediatric Seminar.

Anne Dyson Award (Sponsored by the Section on Residents; established 2000)

Celebrates the outstanding efforts of pediatricians-in-training as they work in their communities to improve the health of children.

This award is generally presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Arnold J. Capute Award (Sponsored by the Council on Children With Disabilities; established 2000)

Recognizes an AAP Fellow who has made notable contributions to the health and well-being of children with disabilities through service and/or advocacy at the local, state or national level.

Arnold M. Salzberg Mentorship Award (Sponsored by the Section on Surgery; established 1997)

This award is generally presented in even-numbered years at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Byron Oberst Award (Sponsored by the Steering Committee on Cinical Information Technology)

This Award is presented annually to a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) who has made a significant contribution to the field of clinical information technology in one or more of the following areas: 1) Improving pediatric clinical information systems; 2) Educating child health professionals in the use of clinical information technology; 3) Creating health policies that promote better use of pediatric clinical information systems. Current COCIT Executive Committee members are not eligible to receive the award.

C. Anderson Aldrich Award (Sponsored by the Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics; established 1964)

Recognizes achievement by a physician in the field of child development. This award is named for Dr. C. Anderson Aldrich, one ofthe founders of the AAP, whose greatest contributions was to the modern practice of infant feeding. In 1944, Dr. Aldrich founded the Rochester Child Health Institute in Rochester, Minnesota, devoted to research on the development of normal infants and children and to a program of delivering child care to an entire community.

Calvin C.J. Sia Community Pediatrics Medical Home Leadership and Advocacy Award (Sponsored by the Council on Community Pediatrics; established 2006)

Recognizes a pediatrician who has demonstrated clinical excellence, community action, and advocacy for children, especially one who has exemplified leadership and excellence by advocating for and providing a medical home for all children, especially children with special health care needs.

This award is generally presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Research Fellowship Award (Sponsored by the Section on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery; established 1991)

Recognizes an individual in his/her pediatric cardiology fellowship training or cardiovascular surgery residency training. Funds provide for an additional year of fellowship dedicated to conducting clinical or basic science research.

This award is generally presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

C. Robert Chambliss, MD Best Paper Award (Sponsored by the Section on Transport Medicine; established 1999)

Presented for the best abstract or poster presentation by a non-student or non-resident transport professional during the Section on Transport Medicine educational and scientific program at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Cardiology Young Investigators Awards (Sponsored by the Section on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery; established 1968)

Presented for best research paper in basic science education or clinical science in the field of pediatric cardiology submitted for presented at the Section on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery's program at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Recognizes important short-term contributions to the mission of the AAP and to children.

Charles "Buzzy" Vanchiere Award (Sponsored by the Section on Administration and Practice Management; established 2001)

Recognizes outstanding contributions toward the education of pediatricians in administration, practice management, and reimbursement.

Recognizes achievement by a non-physician educator in the field of child development.

Dave Berry Award (Sponsored by the Section on Uniformed Services; established 2001)

Recognizes an individual who:

  • Sets high standards for excellence in the practice of pediatrics and holds significant promise for a career in military medical education;
  • Is a caring, compassionate physician who serves as a role model for parent interactions; and
  • Leads a balanced life that acknowledges the many facets of a whole self: career, family, friends, community, spirituality, and physical health.

Recognizes an individual who has distinguished him/herself through his/her service to the field of pediatric rheumatology.

This award is generally presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Rheumatology.

Jerome Glaser Award (Sponsored by the Section on Allergy and Immunology)

Recognizes outstanding service in the field of pediatric allergy. This award is named for Dr. Jerome Glaser, a noted pediatric allergist. Dr. Glaser was a charter member of the Section on Allergy in 1948. In addition, he served as Vice-President of the American College of Allergists in 1948 and The American Academy of Allergy in 1958. Many remember his textbook Allergy in Childhood, which was published in 1956.

This award is generally presented in odd-numbered years at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Job Lewis Smith Award (Sponsored by the Council on Community Pediatrics; established 1974)

Recognizes outstanding service in community pediatrics. This award is named for Dr. Job Lewis Smith, one of the founding fathers of the American Pediatric Society and chief pioneers of American pediatrics.

This award is generally presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

John J. Downes Resident Research Award (Sponsored by the Section on Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine)

Recognizes the best research presented by the Section on Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine residents at the annual Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology meeting.

Ken Graff Young Investigator Award (Sponsored by the Section on Emergency Medicine)

The purpose of the Ken Graff Young Investigator Award is to promote new understanding of a topic pertaining to pediatric emergency medicine through clinical, epidemiological, or bench research.

This award is presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

L. Joseph Butterfield Lectureship (Sponsored by the Section on Perinatal Pediatrics; established 1998)

Recognizes a speaker with a national or international reputation who can address issues related to the practice of neonatal medicine.

This lectureship is given during the annual Perinatal Workshop.

Leo J. Geppert Award (Sponsored by the Section on Uniformed Services; established 1997)

Recognizes the most outstanding research paper on topics with a major focus on peidatric primary care by a uniformed services pediatric primary care provider.

This award is presented during the annual Uniformed Services Pediatric Seminar.

Leonard Apt Lectureship (Sponsored by the Section on Ophthalmology; established 2000)

Established to honor Leonard Apt, MD, who was the first physician to obtain certification in both pediatrics and ophthalmology. Dr. Apt, an Emeritus Fellow of the AAP, has dedicated his life to the field of pediatric ophthalmology and in recognition of these contributions, the AAP has created an annual lectureship, named in his honor.

This lecture is generally presented at the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Annual Meeting.

Marshall Klaus Research Award (Sponsored by the Section on Perinatal Pediatrics)

This award is a research grant given based on oustanding performance to promote additional opportunities for research.

Martin C. Ushkow Community Service Award (Sponsored by the Section on School Health; established 1995)

Recognizes a physician or school health-related professional or organization that has contributed to the promotion of comprehensive school health programming or has been active in promoting physician and health professions education in school health.

This award is generally presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Membership Recruitment Awards (Sponsored by the Annual Chapter Forum)

Awarded to chapters that meet or exceed recruitment goals for residents and board-certified pediatricians.

Milton J. E. Senn Lectureship (Sponsored by the Section on School Health; established 1989)

Recognizes achievements in the field of school health. This award is named for Dr. Milton J.E. Senn who was a pioneer in instituting programs of school health which have enabled parents, school personnel, pediatricians, and psychiatrists to better work together for the benefit of the child.

Murray Davidson Award (Sponsored by the Section on Gastroenterology and Nutrition; established 1993)

Recognizes an outstanding clinician, educator, and scientist who has made significant contributions to the field of pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition.

Recognizes an individual for significant contributions in a specific landmark area of neonatology.

Recognizes an individual who has demonstrated aptitude for clinical or basic science research and who presents a sound plan of investigation.

Nutrition Award (Sponsored by the Committee on Nutrition; established 1944)

Recognizes outstanding achievement in research relating to nutrition of infants and children that has been completed and publicly recorded.

Ogden Bruton Award (Sponsored by the Section on Uniformed Services; established 1969)

Recognizes the best pediatric paper by a uniformed service pediatrician on either basic science research or research on the development, evaluation or application of an emerging technology in pediatrics.

This award is generally presented at the annual Uniformed Services Pediatric Seminar.

Ogden Bruton Lectureship (Sponsored by the Section on Uniformed Services; established 1980)

Recognizes a uniformed services pediatrician as a distinguished lecturer for the AAP National Conference and Exhibition.

Out-of-Hospital Care Award (Sponsored by the Section on Emergency Medicine)

Recognizes outstanding service and personal dedication to the mission of the AAP and to the health, safety, and well-being of children over the long-term.

Quality Care Award (Sponsored by the Steering Committee on Quality Improvement and Management; established 2001)

Recognizes pediatricians who have demonstrated the effective use of improvement principles and methods to improve the quality of care for children in their practice.

Ray E. Helfer Award (Sponsored by the Section on Child Abuse and Neglect and the National Alliance of Children's Trust Funds; established 1992)

Recognizes distinguished pediatricians who have made demonstrable contributions to the prevention of child abuse.

This award is generally given at the annual meeting of the National Alliance of Children's Trust Funds.

Robert M. Smith Award (Sponsored by the Section on Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine)

Recognizes an individual who has advanced the field of pediatric anesthesiology. This award is presented at the winter meeting of the AAP Section on Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia.

Section on Infectious Diseases Teaching Award (established 2004)

Recognizes individuals with a long and distinguished history as infectious diseases educators of AAP membership.

Section on Pediatric Dentistry Oral Health Service Award (established 2004)

Recognizes an individual who, during the course of their career, has made significant contributions to the advancement of pediatric oral health through their activities within the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Presented at the Business Meeting of the Section on Pediatric Dentistry at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry annual meeting.

Senior Section Child Advocacy Award (Sponsored by the Section on Seniors; established 2002)

Recognizes a senior member of the AAP who has facilitated life-long efforts to advocate for children in his/her community.

Recognize outstanding individuals' AAP work or chapter achievements.

Stephen L. Gans Distinguished Overseas Lectureship (Sponsored by the Section on Surgery)

Given to encourage sharing between Section on Surgery members and pediatric surgeons from other countries and to recognize achievements in the field of pediatric surgery in other countries.

Thomas E. Cone, Jr, MD Lectureship (Sponsored by the Section on Perinatal Pediatrics; established 1993)

Honors Dr Thomas E. Cone, Jr for his contribution to perinatal history and for his example in the research and teaching of perinatal history.

Virginia Apgar Award (Sponsored by the Section on Perinatal Pediatrics; established 1975)

Recognizes an individual in the field of perinatal pediatrics who has contributed to the AAP mission of excellence in patient care, research, or teaching. This award is named for Dr Virginia Apgar, who influenced pediatrics as have few physicians. Dr Apgar established the Apgar Score, which first allowed statistical comparisons among resuscitative techniques for the newborn infant and forced attention to his needs in the delivery room as least competitive with those of the mother. Until her death in 1974, Dr Apgar led and publicized the National Foundation-March of Dimes' effort in structural and nonstructural birth defects,following the conquest of polio, and encouraged the Foundation's developing interest in perinatal problems.

This award is generally presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

William E. Ladd Medal (Sponsored by the Section on Surgery; established 1954)

Recognizes an individual who has advanced the field of pediatric surgery.

This award is presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

William G. Bartholome Award for Ethical Excellence (Sponsored by the Section on Bioethics; established 2000)

Recognizes an individual or group significantly impacting the public discussion of ethical issues in pediatric medicine.

This award is generally presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Willis Wingert Award (Sponsored by the Section on Emergency Medicine)

Recognizes the bst abstract submitted by a resident or fellow for presentation at the Section on Emergency Medicine program at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Young Investigator Awards (Sponsored by the Section on Perinatal Pediatrics)

Recognizes the two best papers submitted for presentation at the Section on Perinatal Pediatrics program at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition.

Young Investigator Research Grant (Sponsored by the Section on Genetics and Birth Defects)

Recognizes clinical research by young investigators in genetics and birth defects.

This grant is presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG).
