STUDY UPDATE

The Healthy Lifestyles Pilot Study

A study team was formed from researchers and staff at the American Academy of Pediatrics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Emory University School of Public Health, University of North Carolina School of Public Health and Nutrition, and the American Dietetic Association.
The protocol and all data collection instruments for the pilot have been finalized.
The study was approved by the IRB Committees at the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Stadiometers (Accustat) were obtained for study practices from Genentech Inc.
The CDC conducted focus groups at the end of November 2001 that tested the educational messages and handout sheets to be used in the study.
Recruitment of 14 PROS practitioners for the pilot has been finalized.
Training workshops were held in Atlanta, GA on January 12 and 13, 2002 and in Chicago, IL on September 12 and 13, 2003 for the intervention group practitioners and nutritionists.
Patient recruitment and data collection began in April 2004 continued to June 2005.
