New sign Resources for Patients and Providers
A portal that provides a pathway to handouts that can be used in primary care practice for patients, parents and providers. Our goal for this new feature is to provide one central, convenient location where pediatricians can turn for access to many adolescent health related handouts. All handouts and relevant Web site links are reviewed by the SOAH Executive Committee and have been identified as helpful resources by adolescent medicine specialists.

The Section on Adolescent Health holds its organizational meetings and hosts educational programs at the Academy's NCE. The educational programs consist of at least two portions: a professional program open to all members of the Academy and invited guests and a business meeting which is limited to Section members and invited guests. Educational programs focus on various issues of adolescent health from office recognition of common problems to coding and reimbursement solutions.

The NCE has a number of sessions that focus on adolescent health and substance abuse issues. To review a listing of sessions, go to the NCE Web site.

History

The Section on Adolescent Health, founded in 1978, enables members who are primarily interested in adolescent health to meet for the purpose of initiation, discussion and development of ideas and programs which will improve the health care of young people in their second decade of life and to provide an educational forum for the membership at large in expanding their basic pediatric knowledge and skills to include the adolescent patient.

Awards

The Section maintains liaisons with other AAP Sections and Committees including the Committee on Adolescence, Committee on Communications and the Section on Residents. In addition, the Section sponsors two awards: the Adele Dellenbaugh Hofmann Award (supported by McNeil Consumer Healthcare) and the Founders of Adolescent Medicine Award (sponsored by SOAH). The Hofmann award recognizes one pediatrician each year for their outstanding contributions to the field of adolescent health. The Founders award recognizes one pediatrician each year for the outstanding contributions to the field of adolescent health in the community.
