| AAP
Initiatives
Along
with Section on Allergy and Immunology activities, the American
Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) supports the following initiatives.
Discovery
Health Channel TV Series
The AAP sponsors the Kids Healthworks TV series on the Discovery
Health Channel to educate parents and caregivers of children
from birth to age 12. Airing at 9 AM (ET) and 11 AM (ET) 5
days a week, each 30-minute episode in this 26-part series
features AAP-member physicians who answer common parenting
questions. In addition, the series includes enlightening reports,
sidebars, and real-life stories from parents "who have
been there" and addresses topics such as antibiotics,
adoption, ear infections, childcare, sibling rivalry, and
vitamins.
National
Asthma Control Program: Reducing Costs and Improving Quality
of Life - 2002
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is funding
6 urban school districts (Baltimore, Dallas, Detroit, Houston,
Los Angeles, and Philadelphia) and 6 national, nongovernmental
organizations (the AAP, American Association of School Administrators,
American Lung Association, Asthma and Allergy Foundation of
America, National Association of School Nurses, and STARBRIGHT
Foundation) to support and address asthma control within a
coordinated school health program. Learn more about this program
and other CDC asthma-related programs through this link.
Child Health Measurement Project
The AAP Child Health Measurement Project addresses a component
often missing in efforts to improve quality of care—valid
and reliable measurement tools to assess the impact of disease
and medical treatment on the lives of children and their families.
Visit this Web page to learn more about the Children's Health
Survey for Asthma (CHSA) project. (The CHSA
survey instrument has been listed in several large, federally
funded studies. If you are interested in using it, please
e-mail dorchmp@aap.org.)
Media
Resource Team
Since 1994, the AAP Media Resource Team, a group of Los Angeles-based
pediatricians, has worked with writers, directors, and producers
in all media and with network programmers, interactive product
producers, and others in the entertainment industry to provide
the latest and most accurate information relating to the health
and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, young adults,
and families. Learn more about this team, including its objectives
and shows it has provided consultation to, through this link.
