Results of the 2008 Bioethics Essay Contest Announced!


The Section on Bioethics is proud to announce the results of its third annual essay contest, open to residents and physicians who completed training within the past five years. A subcommittee comprised of newsletter editor Ed Forman, MD, FAAP, Web and Listserv (R) editor Brenda Jean Mears, MD, FAAP, and section chairperson Mary Adam, MD, MA, FAAP reviewed all entries and determined the first and second place winners using a blinded review process.

This year, the judges awarded first place to Taylor Sawyer, DO for his essay titled "Is Withdrawing Life Support from Premature Infants with Severe Intraventricular Hemorrhage Still Ethically Acceptable in the Modern NICU?" He will receive a $300 prize and his essays will be published in the Section newsletter and on the Section Web site.

Second place was awarded to Brian Cummings, MD for his essay titled "Perinatal Care at the Thresholds of Viability." He will receive a $200 prize.
