Alan R. Fleischman, MD, FAAP

The AAP Section
on Bioethics is proud to present Alan R. Fleischman, MD, the 2006
William G Bartholome Award for Ethical Excellence. The award will
be presented on Monday, October 9 during the Section on Bioethics
educational program at the National Conference and Exhibition. Dr
Fleischman is Chair of the Federal Advisory Committee and Ethics Advisor
to the National Children's Study at the National Institute of Child
Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health (NIH),
and Senior Advisor at the New York Academy of Medicine. He is also
Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical Professor of Epidemiology
and Population Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in
New York.
Dr Fleischman has written, taught and lectured extensively on many
aspects of bioethics, emphasizing the rights of individual patients
and the responsibilities of healthcare professionals. His most noteworthy
contributions are in the fields of pediatric and research ethics,
and the translation of ethical principles into medical practice. He
is a former member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee
on Bioethics and Committee on Pediatric AIDS, and served as an expert
advisor to the Institute of Medicine's Committee on Clinical Research
Involving Children. He is currently a member of the New York State
Governor's Task Force on Life and the Law, a member of the DHHS Secretary's
Advisory Committee on Human Research Protections' Subcommittee on
Research Involving Children, and a member of the Institute of Medicine
Committee on Ethical Issues in Housing-Related Health Hazard Research
Involving Children, Youth, and Families.
