Opportunities

Health Volunteers Overseas- The section maintains a close working relationship with Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO), a Washington DC based nongovernmental organization that recruits medical volunteers from many specialties to work at numerous sites in developing countries. HVO’s pediatrics division, Pediatrics Overseas, places volunteers in Cambodia, Malawi, St Lucia  and Uganda. Most HVO volunteers teach medical students and residents, but some also do clinical work as well. Rotations are typically 2-4 weeks. Phone: 202-296-0928, www.hvousa.org

CHILDisaster Network
The section has developed a network of pediatric medical professionals available to accompany organizations responding to disasters. This network is comprised of health professionals with expertise in helping children in disaster situations. Each member of the network completes a comprehensive application process and promises to be available to accompany organizations responding to disasters on short-term notice. Organizations needing pediatric medical professionals are able to search for volunteers by their availability, specialty, and language proficiencies.
