Introduction
Welcome to the Council on Communication and Media’s "Media Grand Rounds"! Similar to the AAP monthly Grand Rounds publication, this space is where you’ll find our picks for the media studies you need to know about to care best for your patients.
While AAP Grand Rounds does cover media studies, we wanted to expand that coverage even further since our charge is to help you stay on top of media and communication issues impacting kids and families. Plus, the explosion of media studies lately is incredible, and with good reason! We have never before lived in a time when so much technology has been developed so specifically towards kids. We have never before lived in a time when so much media programming has been developed for kids. And, we have never before lived in a time where kids have so much skill using technology, even at very young ages. While media and the technology that accompanies it have many benefits, the health ramifications for children must be explored so parents can continue to raise healthy kids in today’s very complex society.
We’ve picked a format similar to AAP Grand Rounds to be consistent with the format you are already familiar with. And, similar to AAP Grand Rounds, this isn’t an all inclusive list of every study out now but a review and commentary of the studies we feel you need to know about now.
