Council on Communications and Media

Media Visiting Professorship

The media play a key role in virtually every concern that pediatricians and parents have about the health of children and adolescents – violence, drug use, sex, eating disorders, obesity, school performance, physical inactivity.   Because of the importance of educating pediatricians and parents about the effects of media on children and adolescents, the Council on Communications and Media will sponsor an annual visiting professorship starting in 2009.

It is anticipated that the visiting professor would spend 1 to 2 days at the host institution conducting lectures, seminars, or rounds.  Interested hospitals or institutions are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to those institutions that can supply an audience of pediatricians, pediatric residents, and medical students and link with the community to include a presentation to parents and/or teachers.

The Council on Communications and Media will oversee the program and provide the visiting professor with an honorarium and reimbursement for travel, lodging, and meal expenses for up to two days.

Applications for the 2009 Council on Communications and Media Visiting Professorship will be accepted until September 1, 2008.

Applicants will be notified of the Council’s decision by November 1, 2008, with the visit to be scheduled for the 2009 calendar year.

Vic Strasburger, M.D., FAAP, has been identified as the visiting professor for 2009.

Questions regarding the Council on Communications and Media and the Visiting Professorship can be directed to cocm@aap.org.
