Section on Nephrology

The Section on Nephrology was founded in 1975, is committed to improving the care of infants, children, and adolescence with disorders of the kidneys and urinary tract by providing an educational forum for the discussion of problems and treatments relating to Nephrology.

Membership in the Section is open to all Fellows of the Academy who are actively involved in some aspect of the study of nephrology in infants, children or adolescents. The Section currently has 169 members and dues of $25 annually.

The Section on Nephrology holds its educational programs in conjunction with the AAP National Conference and Exhibition (NCE, formerly the Annual Meeting). The educational programs are directed toward the practicing pediatrician and include topics such as care of the transplant recipient, fluid and electrolyte disorders, advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, and evaluation and treatment of the wet child.

The Section serves as an expert resource to the academy by providing review and input to official Academy policy. The Section sponsors the Henry L. Barnett Award established to recognize a physician for outstanding contributions to the field of Nephrology. The award is presented during the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology Annual Meeting.

The section has developed an online directory of training programs in Pediatric Nephrology. In addition, the section has established a Section group e-mail to communicate more effectively with the members.
