Distinguished Service Award

The Section on Orthopaedics established the Distinguished Service Award in 1995 to recognize an individual in the field of pediatric orthopaedics who has contributed to the AAP's mission of excellence in patient care, research, and teaching.

The Twelfth Annual Distinguished Service Award Winner
Peter Pizzutillo, MD, FAAP

Dr Pizzutillo, a graduate of Jefferson Medical College, is Professor of Pediatrics and Orthopaedic Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine and serves as Director of the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery at St Christopher's Hospital for Children. Dr Pizzutillo is a member of the AAP Section on Orthopaedics where he has served as the Section Chairperson and as an Executive Committee Member. His professional interests include the spectrum of pediatric orthopaedic conditions with emphasis on the cervical spine, spondylolisthesis, trauma, and sports medicine. Dr Pizzutillo has been active in the education of primary caregivers and edited the text entitled, Pediatric Orthopaedics in Primary Care.

Note from the Executive Committee...

Dr Peter Pizzutillo was nominated to receive the 2006 Distinguished Service Award because of his tireless dedication and commitment to caring for the well being of children afflicted with musculoskeletal diseases and disorders. It is because of what Dr Pizzutillo has done throughout his career (and life) on behalf of his patients and those in need that the Section Executive Committee unanimously decided to recognize him.
