Introduction
The James T. Cassidy Award, established in
2000, was developed to recognize an individual who has distinguished him/herself
through his/her service to the field of pediatric rheumatology. This service is
primarily manifested through education: Education of physicians at large concerning
the role of pediatric rheumatologists and education of patients and society concerning
the inflammatory conditions that affect children. It is named in honor of James
T. Cassidy, a founding member of the field, who has co-authored definitive text
used to teach countless caregivers about pediatric rheumatology.
Eligibility
Members
of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Rheumatology (other than current
members of the Executive Committee) are eligible to receive this award, given
yearly at the American College of Rheumatology Annual Meeting. Recipients will
be chosen on the basis of their recognition as outstanding educators (for example,
through receipt of teaching awards or grants), their record of successfully training
pediatric rheumatology fellows, and/or their contribution to the field through
research, publications, and/or legislation. The recipient will receive a $500.00
