The multidisciplinary center provides consultation for Hawaii's Department of Human Services, Child Protection Services Section. It provides medical, clinical nursing, psychological and social work consultation and related services to the State CPS Child Welfare Services worker. It also provides mental health treatment services to victims of child maltreatment and their families and assists in coordinating medical and mental health services to children in foster care. The Center services about 1,500 cases per year and assists in diagnosis, treatment recommendations and coordination of necessary services for these cases. It is responsible for completing a diagnostic and discharge team conference for all children hospitalized due to suspected child maltreatment. The Center also is the pacific regional training center for pediatric residents, post and pre doctoral psychology residents, psychiatry residents, nursing and public health students and social work students. Continuing educational services for community professional is provided on all of the major island of the Hawaiian chain.
