The Medical
Program at Sunflower provides specialized medical services to the families
and children of Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas. The medical
team provides evaluations for both sexual and physical abuse as well
as consultations and educational workshops/presentations. Sunflower
House also provides forensic interview services and child abuse prevention
education services for the community. Referrals to Sunflower House for
medical or forensic interview services are received from Law Enforcement
of SRS. Sunflower House is affiliated with the University of Kansas
School of Medicine and the University of Kansas Hospital. More information

Referrals
to the clinic are taken from social service agencies, law enforcement,
court agencies, therapists, physicians or other professionals. Self-referrals
from patients and families are screened by the director before scheduling.
Interviews and medical exams are performed for concerns of physical
or sexual abuse or neglect. Visits are scheduled on Wednesday mornings,
but can be arranged more urgently if needed. The Medical Director
also reviews all pediatric cases seen at Via Christi St. Joseph Medical
Center by the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners with the Sexual Assault
Response Team. Acute or emergency cases can be referred to SANE/SART
c/o Diana Schunn, RN at (316) 689-5252.
