A multidisciplinary team consisting of pediatricians, child psychologist, a nurse and social worker to evaluate children alleged to have been sexually abused. The focus is on the function of the child and parents and clarification of whether abuse occurred. Feedback is provided to the family and a report is sent to the referral source. Recommendations for further treatment/therapy are facilitated. The evaluation is usually conducted in a single afternoon.

The Child Protection Team, an interdisciplinary team of professionals from UMMS and the community, ensures that children who may have been maltreated receive optimal care and attention. The team assists UMMS staff in the assessment and/or management of these cases by providing various levels of consultation, (including case conferences involving UMMS staff and community service providers), continuing education and training, and support to staff.
