Clark Co. Child Abuse Intervention Center 700 NE 87th Ave Vancouver, WA 98664 (206) 253-1230 Medical Director: John Stirling, MD, FAAP Medical evaluation of suspected victims of child sexual and/or physical abuse is provided in the Vancouver Clinic, a multispecialty group clinic serving SW Washington. Close liaison is provided with law enforcement and the county prosecutor's office as well as with Children's Protective Services and community support services. The office provides clinical training for, and coordinates with, a hospital-based Sexual Assault Response team to evaluate acute cases. Consultation is also provided to the communities Child Protection Teams and Infant-Child Death Review Committee.
Mary Bridge Sexual Assault Clinic Intervention Program is an outpatient non-acute forensic medical evaluation and psychosocial support program that serves birth to 18 year old individuals where there is a concern about sexual assault. Average age is 6, ratio of female to male is 75%-25%. Emergency Department evaluation occurs immediately in rape and acute situations. Medical evaluation, necessary medical treatment and psychosocial services for physical assault and concerns occurs through the Child Abuse Intervention Department. In development, is the Child Abuse Prevention Program and an in-house child advocacy team. Professional staff includes physicians, social workers and nurses. Close interaction with law enforcement and Child Protective Service occurs. Psychosocial services include crisis intervention, case management and support to child and family.
The multidisciplinary Children's Hospital Protection Program provides diagnostic and treatment services for children and adolescents with difficulties related to child abuse and neglect. The program also provides education and training for hospital staff, medical residents, nurses, and social workers in training. The multidisciplinary team of the Child Protection Program consists of pediatricians, educators, nurses, social workers, psychiatrist, hospital counsel, security, and pastoral care. The team provides expert consultation to hospital staff and, on occasion, to the community in lieu of city child protection teams. Consultation is also available for medical diagnosis and treatment, at Children's Hospital and other hospital sites including area clinics. The program sponsors a clinic that does specialized child sexual abuse exams for children known to the medical center, supports advocacy efforts in the community, and provides staff for community participation in city child abuse review teams and expert witness testimony. Team members provide community education and present at national conferences on child abuse and neglect.
Haborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress is a multidisciplinary program serving children and teens affected by physical abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse and assault. The Center provides emergency and scheduled medical outpatient and inpatient evaluations for children and teens referred by child protective services, law enforcement and medical providers. Medical evaluations are provided by physicians, nurse practitioners, and sexual assault nurse examiners. Medico-legal consultations are provided for child protective services and law enforcement. The Center has been the leader statewide in establishing protocols for sexual abuse/assault medical forensic exams and child forensic interviewing. The Center provides continuing medical education programs including the Northwest Child Maltreatment Peer Review quarterly meetings, sexual assault nurse examiner training, child interview training, and training for attorneys, advocates, law inforcement and child protective services. Clinical education is provided for University of Washington residents in pediatrics and family medicine. The Center provides brief interventions for support, advocacy and case coordination. Mental health services include psychosocial evaluations, trauma focused cognitive-behavioral therapy, treatment for sexual behavior problems, and parent child interaction training. The Foster Care Assessment Program provides in-depth multidisciplinary assesments for children in foster care. We are part of the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center and affiliated with the School of Social Work. Center physicians are on faculty at the UW Washington School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics and co-attend at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center Child Protection Program.
A collaborative effort among hospital, CPS, law enforcement, prosecutor, attorney general, and treatment provides for child abuse assessments. 1) Comprehensive medical examinations, including colposcopy, for child victims or physical and sexual abuse and neglect; 2) Evidentiary interviews; 3) Multidisciplinary case planning (average of 8 professionals involved with each family) for decisions on: a) legal action (civil and criminal); b) placement and visitation; c) social and health treatment plan for all family members. 4) Evaluation of drug endangered children; 5) Foster care assessment program. Staff includes: pediatrician, pediatric nurse practitioner, RN, manager, social workers, secretary, CPS social workers, one detectives, public health nurse, mental health therapists and chemical dependency therapists.
This Clinic serves residents of Thurston, Lewis, Mason, Grays Harbor, Pacific Counties. Children and adolescents are referred for concerns of possible sexual or physical abuse. Medical social workers gather background history and triage as to acuity and appropriateness of a medical evaluation. Physicians and Nurse Practitioners provide medical evaluations. Foster children with no identified medical provider may have initial well child exams here. We participate in Thurston County's Child Protective Team. The Clinic also supports a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program for emergeny center coverage for acute forensic exams of adults and adolescents. The clinic is affiliated with and housed in the Thurston County child advocacy center (Monarch Children's Justice and Advocacy Center)

House is a child abuse treatment and prevention agency. The mission
of the agency is to break the cycle of child abuse in Whatcom County.
The goals are to promote the healthy development of all families,
to prevent the onset of abuse through community outreach and education,
and to provide immediate and comprehensive services to victims of
child abuse. Programs include Healthy Families Whatcom County for
families beginning prenatally and ending when the child turns seven;
Parents Helping Parents weekly drop in support groups; Family Support
Team parent mentor program; the Nurturing Program for Parents and
Children ages 4 to 12; School Based Case Management; Child Sexual
Abuse Case Management; and Group Therapy for children who have been
sexually abused and their non-offending parents.
