Dear AAP Member:
The members of the Section for Senior Members of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) welcome you to join the Section and participate in our wealth of activities. We encourage you to become part of a Section whose members have the knowledge and expertise to influence issues at the state and national level, while sharing the common bond of dedication to the health of all children.
Eligibility is determined by age: 55 and up. Whether you are emerita or emeritus, in practice or retired, or working at an alternate occupation doesn’t make a difference—if you’ve grown up to 55 you are welcome. For those who are active in pediatric practice, teaching or research, and for those who have retired, membership offers a route to participate in AAP affairs especially at the Chapter level. Members offer advice to residents and young practitioners, contribute articles to our popular quarterly Bulletin, work on projects of their own interest, advocate for important matters pertaining to children and family, and exchange ideas and solutions to common practice and retirement issues. Section dues are only $20/year and Section benefits include:
Ø The very popular and meaningful quarterly Bulletin (to which anyone may contribute articles, letters, or personal thoughts. Click on Home above to view the current Senior Bulletin under “What’s New” or view archived Senior Bulletin(s) by clicking on Senior Bulletin Archives above.
Ø Opportunities to advocate for children with government, organizations, and individuals
Ø Exchange thoughts and ideas with others who have devoted themselves to the well-being of children
Ø Attend educational programs sponsored by the Section at the AAP national conference on topics such as longevity and wellness, investing, mentorship, career/life change, etc.
Ø Obtain information from ListServ® and from the section web page
Ø Serve on the Section Executive Committee (if desired)
Ø Take the initiative to develop projects and programs of your own devising.
Give it a whirl! Try it out for a year –or more. Put your years of experience to use in the Section that strives to make a difference for kids AND senior pediatricians. Click on Apply Now after closing this letter to join the Section for Senior Members now.
Yours respectfully,
George Cohen, MD, FAAP, Membership Chairperson
