Operation Purple Camps

The goal of these free summer camps is to bring together youth who are experiencing some stage of a deployment and the stress that goes along with it. Operation Purple camps give kids the coping skills and support networks of peers to better handle life's ups and downs.

Finding My Way

Finding My Way by Michelle Sherman

Michelle Sherman, psychologist at the Oklahoma City VA hospital and the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and her mother (a teacher) have written Finding My Way: A Teen's Guide to Living with a Parent Who Has Experienced Trauma.

Although not specific to combat, "Finding My Way" empowers teens and their families by:

  • Providing essential information
  • Normalizing a variety of reactions
  • Encouraging open communication
  • Supporting healthy coping
  • Offering comfort and hope

The award-winning book is highly interactive, containing numerous activities, open-ended sentences, short stories depicting healthy coping, and opportunities for reflection.

"Building Resilient Kids"
from the Military Child Initiative

This course is for school administrators, support staff and teachers to help all students meet life's challenges with resilience, focusing primarily on students from military families.
