The Steering Committee
on Quality Improvement Management (SCOQIM) was established in 2001
in response
to the increasing national emphasis on the issue of quality in health
care and the Academy's own identification of
quality care as a top priority. The SCOQIM offers a more integrated
voice for quality and will enable the Academy to
best support its members in providing the highest quality clinical
care for children. The group is comprised of pediatricians
with expertise in practice, technology, and evidence-based medicine
as well as liaisons from the Agency for Healthcare
Research and Quality and the National Association for Children's Hospitals
and Related Institutions. Additionally, a liaison
from the Section on Epidemiology serves on the SCOQIM and plays a
major role in the oversight of the clinical guideline development
process by staying abreast of the status of various guidelines and
assisting in their review. SCOQIM is also represented on the AMA
Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement. Elizabeth "Sooze"
Hodgson, MD, FAAP chairs the SCOQIM.
SCOQIM
Meeting
The SCOQIM convenes face-to-face meetings twice annually. The committee held its Fall meeting November 16-17, 2007 in Washington, DC to review its key initiatives around quality measurement, clinical practice guideline development and implementation, and patient safety. The SCOQIM will convene its next meeting in April 25-26, 2008 in Chicago.
