Many of the nation's
payers, including Medicaid, are implementing variations
of the Medicare Resource-Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS) to pay physicians for the provision of health
care services. The Committee on Coding and Nomenclature (COCN) was created to act as the Academy's educational conduit
regarding RBRVS activities and to serve as a review panel regarding
CPT and ICD-9-CM codes and American Medical Association/Specialty
Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) activities. COCN
has provided the Academy with a mechanism for commenting on revisions
to the Medicare RBRVS as well as educating members on the RBRVS system of physician payment. Resources related to RBRVS can be obtained
