Coding

The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to play an active role in the revision and development of CPT codes to more adequately describe the provision of pediatric services. The Academy's CPT Advisor and the Committee on Coding and Nomenclature, the designated Academy body formed to serve as a review panel regarding CPT, ICD-9-CM, and American Medical Association/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) activities, continues to solicit recommendations for new and revised CPT codes from the Academy's membership. Most Academy Sections have designated members specifically assigned to communicate and actively participate with the Committee on Coding and Nomenclature (COCN) related to Academy coding activities and initiatives. The Academy also is actively working with the National Center for Health Statistics Coordination and Maintenance Committee to ensure that the impending ICD-10-CM incorporates current pediatric diagnoses and diseases. For further information on Academy coding activities, please contact the Division of Health Care Finance and Quality Improvement at dhcfqi@aap.org.
