Quality Measurement

The Academy has been monitoring the national efforts on quality measurement and is participating with other organizations to develop, review or endorse pediatric quality measures.

The AAP Steering Committee on Quality Improvement and Management (SCOQIM) and the Committee on Practice and Ambulatory Medicine are drafting a policy statement on pediatric measurement. The statement will outline a set of principles for quality measurement to guide the Academy in determining how it should approach this field and whether to collaborate or join various measurement organizations. The principles will address issues of accountability and improvement and present criteria on which measures for each activity should be based. In addition, the statement will provide guidance to the membership about appropriate and inappropriate uses of measures and briefly address the incentive payment systems that utilize measures. The SCOQIM anticipates extensive education on this issue for AAP members.

Child Health Measurement Project
A multifaceted effort to enhance and advance the field of pediatric health measurement. Project activities include the development, testing, and dissemination of instruments for asthma, as well as efforts to understand the complexities of children as reporters of their own health status. The Child Health Measurement Project is also involved in work aimed at rethinking the ways in which well-child care is currently provided.
