The Section on Pediatric Trainees (SOPT) participates in many activities during the AAP National Conference & Exhibition. Registration is FREE for medical student members.
To many first time attendees, the conference can be rather overwhelming. We've pulled out what we think you would want to be a part of. Click here for a special invitation to the meeting from Dr Dan Schumacher, National Conference Planning Group Member and Former SOPT Executive Committee Member 2007-2011.
SOPT Educational Program (aka SOMSRFT Assembly):
The SOPT Assembly at the National Conference is the annual business meeting for general SOPT members. The Assembly serves as the forum to conduct critical business matters such as election of national officers, development and approval of Section resolutions to be submitted at the AAP Annual Leadership Forum, and basic training of new Executive Committee members. Moreover, the Assembly serves as the primary forum to debut the Section's Annual Advocacy Campaign, present significant awards, and to meet senior AAP leadership.
Two specific proposed sessions merit further mention. First, the Medical Student program has been a relatively new and highly appraised event specifically geared toward medical student issues such as becoming an excellent residency applicant and how to determine the best residency program. These sessions are led by local residency program leaders and have been met with wonderful success.
Finally, the SOPT Reception and Poster Display highlights poster presentations from the SOMSRFT Clinical Case Competition. Dr Deepak Kamath, Editor of Pediatrics in Review, attends and determines the winner from the Top 20 finalists.
