The individual must be an advocate for adolescents who enhances the care of the adolescent in pediatrics. Except in unusual circumstances, the individual should be a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The recipient will receive a $1,000 honorarium, a plaque, and specified travel expenses to attend the AAP National Conference & Exhibition for the award presentation.
The Richard B. Heyman award, formerly known Founders of Adolescent Health Award for Community Leadership, is sponsored by the Section on Adolescent Health and is presented to an individual who has done much in their community to improve the care for teenagers and to educate pediatricians about the needs of adolescents and the health care they require. Individuals may have established programs for teens in their community, provided direct care to adolescents, and guided and taught medical students, residents and local pediatricians. The individual for this award would be well known to pediatricians in their community as the resource person for adolescent health care. The recipient will receive a $500 honorarium, a plaque, and specified travel expenses to attend the AAP National Conference & Exhibition for the award presentation.
The Emerging Leader Award is a recognition of residents, fellows-in-training, junior faculty, and/or practicing pediatricians who are within the first five years of an appointment or practice for advances in research, clinical innovation, teaching, advocacy, and/or community service in the field of Adolescent Health. Individuals must be nominated by an active AAP member and must supply a short CV and abstract describing their work for presentation during the Section on Adolescent Health Meeting at the annual AAP National Conference & Exhibition.
