The Section on Neurological Surgery traditionally presents two annual awards at the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Neurological Surgery meeting:

SONS Lecturer Award

This award is given to neurosurgeons who have made a significant contribution to the field of pediatric surgery,

  • The recipient of this Lectureship Award becomes a featured speaker at the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Neurological Surgery annual meeting
  • Prize: The award covers all travel expense to the annual meeting and a $500 honorarium

Best Oral Presentation Award

This award is given to an oral research presentation whose findings broadly impact and improve the health of children by influencing pediatric health care practice through the application of pediatric neurosurgical knowledge,

  • Eligibility: A Medical student, resident, fellow or attending neurosurgeon.  
  • Those abstracts that are ultimately accepted for oral presentation by the Scientific Program Committee of the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Neurosurgery will be judged during the oral presentation at the Annual Meeting
  • Prize: $500 or one year AAP fellowship dues to be given to the presenter of the paper.
  • Judging:  Each eligible presentation is rated by an awards committee composed of AAP SONS members during pediatric Section meeting.​
